At Conexus, we believe caring is not just something we do — it’s who we are. Through our Conexus Cares initiative, we partner with Colorado nonprofits whose missions align with our values of inclusion, dignity, and community support.
For the month of November, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on FRIENDS of Broomfield — an organization dedicated to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) through programs, community engagement, and opportunities for growth.
Who is FRIENDS of Broomfield?
- Mission & Vision: FRIENDS of Broomfield’s mission is to enhance communities by creating opportunities for individuals with I/DD through a person-centered, innovative approach.
- Roots & Growth: The organization started in 1998, founded by a group of parents seeking a better life and more opportunities for their children with developmental disabilities.
- It remains the only Broomfield-based, state-certified nonprofit that supports teens and adults with developmental disabilities, offering a full range of programs.
- Over the years, it has expanded to serve 200+ individuals across its various programs — from day services to residential support to social and travel programming.
What They Do
FRIENDS operates several key program areas:
- Day Program / Community Access — fostering skills, independence, and connection
- Residential Supports — helping people live in community with support
- Supported Employment — coaching, job development, and workplace support
- Social & Travel — inclusive experiences, outings, and social engagement
- Behavioral & Support Services — tailored help as needed
Their approach is deeply rooted in person-centered care: they listen to individuals, adapt to their goals, and emphasize dignity, inclusion, and belonging.
How Conexus Is Participating This Month
As part of our Q4 Conexus Cares program (including: Growing Home, FRIENDS of Broomfield, and A Precious Child), here’s how we’re supporting FRIENDS this November:
- Our team will join one of FRIENDS’ afternoon bowling classes, forming connections and simply being present.
- We’re supporting their Friendsgiving Celebration on November 21, providing ham and turkey for the event.
- During that Friendsgiving fundraiser, we’ll match donations up to $1,000 to amplify community giving.
DONATE HERE - We’re encouraging our team, family, and friends to “Pie it Forward” by making a recurring donation of just $10/month to FRIENDS.
What does “Pie it Forward” mean?
If you sign up for a monthly donation, you get to choose which member of our leadership team gets a pie in the face from one of FRIENDS’ participants at our annual in-office holiday party. One donation = one pie. So if 10 people sign up, that could mean 10 pies flying!
💛 Why Give This Season?
- Support Independence: Help Friends gain essential life and job skills.
- Create Connection: Fund social and community programs that foster belonging.
- Empower Caregivers: Provide resources and community for families.
- Build Opportunities: Medicaid covers 75% of what it takes to serve our Friends. You help fill the 25% gap that allows our Friends to learn, connect, and thrive in their community.
Your Gift in Action
- 💛 $10/month – Opens the door for a Friend to join a monthly activity that supports wellness, growth, and independence.
- 💛 $25/month – Covers essential materials that help our Friends learn and grow.
- 💛 $50/month – Provides social opportunities that foster friendship and connection.
- 💛 $100/month – Provides transportation for Friends to connect with their community.
💚 Bonus Impact: Community First Foundation will match the first month’s gift of every new monthly donor (up to $100) until their $250,000 matching fund runs out! That means your first gift goes twice as far when you become a monthly supporter now.
Ways You Can Help or Participate This November
If you’re moved by their mission and want to make a difference, here are a few ways to engage:
- Donate — every dollar counts. Give during the matching period to double your impact, or Pie it Forward by pledging $10/month and guarantee a pie to the face of your chosen Conexus leader. Donate HERE.
- Volunteer — join a program, help with events, or lend your expertise.
- Share their story — amplify their mission by posting on social media, telling friends, or featuring them in your own networks.
Closing Thoughts
